our story
The Puerta de Oro de Colombia Cultural and Folkloric Organization was founded in 2008 in Miami, FL and is made up of South Florida residents full of enthusiasm and a desire to showcase the richness of Colombian folklore.
We continually participate in the preservation of our Hispanic Heritage, offering the opportunity to appreciate abroad the extensive Colombian cultural and folkloric diversity.
Our events and activities include bilingual workshops at public libraries, schools, and universities in Miami-Dade County, where the public can learn about the regions of Colombia and the history of renowned traditional dances such as Cumbia, Bambuco, Currulao, Joropo Llanero, and Pilón Vallenato, among others. We also create an interactive experience where participants can practice our dances and play traditional instruments. Additionally, we include an overview of the Barranquilla Carnival, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and as the finest example of the fusion of ethnicities.
historymiami museum
In August 2017, HistoryMiami Museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Museums chain, selected Puerta de Oro de Colombia to exhibit our first cumbia costume, created by Berty Rojano (RIP), one of the founders of this organization. Then, during 2018, we were the artists-in-residence for four months, which included exhibiting several costumes, cultural workshops, and dance performances, showcasing a retrospective of the work that has shaped Miami's history.
